How to compare two texts

  1. Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right, or load .txt / .md files.
  2. Optionally ignore whitespace, letter case, or full-width/half-width differences.
  3. Press Compare. Red − lines are from the original, green + lines from the changed text, and ⟦ ⟧ marks exactly what changed.
  4. Copy the diff or download it as a .diff file to share or archive.

Tips

  • “Changes only” collapses unchanged passages and keeps two lines of context around each change.
  • To compare the text of two PDFs, use PDF Compare.

FAQ

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser; your text and files never leave your device, so it is safe for contracts and drafts.

Does it show which words changed inside a line?

Yes. Changed lines are compared again word by word (English) or character by character (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, which have no spaces). Changed parts are wrapped in ⟦ ⟧.

How are changed, added, removed and moved lines counted?

Line by line. Similar lines at matching positions count as changed; lines only in the new text are added; lines only in the original are removed; identical lines that changed position are moved.

What does "ignore full-width / half-width" do?

It treats full-width and half-width letters, digits and katakana as the same (A and A, 1 and 1), which helps when texts come from different Asian-language systems.

Can I export the result?

You can copy or download a standard unified diff (.diff) that Git and patch understand.

How long can the texts be?

Up to 2,000,000 characters and 100,000 lines on each side. Documents with a few thousand lines usually finish within a second.
