Needs passwordBeta

Remove a PDF's open password, and with the permissions password its print and copy restrictions too. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Password-protected PDF
or drop files here (files are processed locally, never uploaded)

Lifting print or copy restrictions needs the permissions password. If the file has none, the open password is enough.

Choose a protected PDF, enter its password, then click "Remove password".

How to unlock a PDF

  1. Choose or drop the password-protected PDF.
  2. Enter the password. If the file restricts printing, copying or similar actions, enter its permissions password; if it doesn’t, the open password is enough.
  3. Click “Remove password” and download the PDF without a password.

FAQ

Can I unlock a PDF without the password?

No. You need the correct password; this tool does not crack passwords or get around any restriction. Only process files you have the right to.

What about PDFs that only block printing or copying?

You need the permissions password (also called the owner password); leaving it empty will not work. With only the open password, the open password can be removed only if the file has no print, copy or similar restrictions. Files with those restrictions are not processed; ask whoever gave you the file for the permissions password.

Are my PDF and password uploaded?

No. Decryption happens in your browser. The file and password never leave your device and are not stored.

Does unlocking change the content?

No. Only the encryption is removed; pages, text, images, bookmarks and forms stay the same, and the page count is checked automatically.

It says the password is wrong.

Check upper/lower case, spaces and your keyboard input mode. Full-width letters and digits are automatically retried as half-width.

Can I remove the password on my phone?

Yes. It works in your phone's browser with nothing to install, so the file and the password stay on your device there too. Files up to 200 MB are accepted; a very large one may run out of memory on a phone, in which case use a computer.
