FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and your file never leaves your device.

How well are PDFs converted?

The text layer is extracted, headings are detected by font size, paragraphs by line spacing and indentation, and lines starting with bullets or numbers become lists. Lines set in a monospaced font (such as code) become code blocks and URLs become links. Tables and multi-column layouts come out as plain text line by line.

Can scanned PDFs be converted?

No. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer. Use OCR: Image and PDF to Text to recognize the text first.

What about password-protected PDFs?

Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then convert.

Why are there backslashes in the result?

Characters like *, _ and # have special meaning in Markdown, so they are escaped with a backslash to make them display exactly as in the original.

Are there size limits?

PDFs can be up to 50 MB and 300 pages.
