FAQ

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and your content never leaves your device.

How is structure detected?

Blank lines separate paragraphs and line breaks inside a paragraph are kept. Lines starting with -, *, • or ・ become bullet lists; lines starting with 1. 1) or (1) become numbered lists. A paragraph whose lines all start with 4 spaces or a tab becomes a code block, and tab-separated lines (for example copied from Excel) become a table. A short single line that does not end with punctuation is treated as a heading. URLs become links and image URLs become images.

Which encoding is used for .txt files?

The file is read as UTF-8 first. If it is not valid UTF-8, it is read as Windows-1252.

Why are there backslashes in the result?

Characters like *, _ and # have special meaning in Markdown, so they are escaped with a backslash to make them display exactly as in the original.

Are there size limits?

Up to 1,000,000 characters; files you open can be up to 8 MB.
